Senator Rubio says Iran is responsible.
Pentagon officials confirmed that U.S. troops in Syria were targeted Wednesday in a “deliberate and coordinated attack.” The attack occurred at a base in the southeastern part of the country where about 200 Americans staff a position on a highway that runs from Damascus to Baghdad. The attack appears to have used both unmanned aircraft and indirect fire.
The U.S. was not aware of any killed or injured Americans and is working with partner forces to determine whether they suffered any casualties.
U.S. Central Command’s spokesman confirmed the attack. “Based on initial reports, the attack utilized both unmanned aerial systems and indirect fire. All U.S. personnel have been accounted for, and we are not aware of any injuries to U.S. personnel at this time. We maintain the inherent right of self-defense and will respond at a time and place of our choosing,” he said.
Senator Marco Rubio of Florida claims Iran is responsible for the attack. He made a statement in which he appeared to warn President Biden’s administration against downplaying Iran’s role in the attack. “Iran directly attacked U.S. troops in Syria yesterday,” the senator stated. “Don’t cover this up just to save your hoped-for nuclear deal with Iran.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For safety for American troops stationed abroad.
- For the president and his administration as they assess pursuing the renewal of the Iran nuclear agreement.
- For U.S. allies as they cooperate in defending against Iran’s domination of the region.
